Cái is a project that focuses on the movement of art & culture intersection which aims to promote an emerging community from Saigon. The second topic that Cái has been engaged in is Vietnamese Wet Markets.

(wetmarket-patch-life) is an irritating process of being-human-with-being-human, an effortless attempt to find the independent voice in commitments while voices are being deemed by the illusion of deliberation. In Vietnamese, wedding means “hôn nhân” in which “hôn” is defined as the bride's relatives and “nhân” is defined as the groom's relatives. We question the possibilities of standing on one’s own decision, in this context, getting married or a form of love-in-legal.

Is it a wet market or a wedding?

We did a field trip to Vietnam’s Mekong Delta provinces: Ben Tre, Can Tho, An Giang, Dong Thap, and others to explore wet markets and encounter their culture. As the spirit of going and seeing, we stopped at random points to “interfere” the mundane life, collect things that people throwing away.

Plastic, coconut, fabrics, or any kind of trash were brought back to our hub at Saigon. a “wet market” was opened to let people create stuff and leave it in the market in their own way. We gather as strangers to make things.

All the works are installed as interactive pieces at the exhibition organized by the Vietnam Festival of Creativity & Design. we also invited two performance artists to engage with the work.
